The Disability Screen Office (DSO) is inviting Francophone professionals with experience in accessibility to join the Advisory Committee for the ProdAccess Role, a national initiative aimed at formalizing a dedicated accessibility role within film and television production teams in Canada.
This committee will play a vital role in shaping the framework for this emerging crew position, ensuring it reflects lived experience, industry realities, and the highest legal and ethical standards. The committee will convene for the first time in December 2025 and will require a one-year commitment, with meetings taking place once every month.
Advisory Committee Responsibilities
- Guidance and Expertise: Provide advice on key tools, resources, and best practices that should inform the development of the Production Accessibility Role, including the standards by which accessibility professionals should be evaluated and recommended to productions.
- Training Tool Evaluation: Contribute to the ongoing improvement of training and support materials. Helping to identify challenges and recommend practical solutions.
- Community Outreach: Promote awareness of the initiative within the Canadian screen industry and Francophone communities, recommend relevant publications or authors, and encourage accessibility professionals to participate or be listed in upcoming rosters of recommended talent.
Compensation
In line with the DSO’s Compensation Policy, Advisory Committee members will receive an honorarium of $1,000 in recognition of their active, engaged, and meaningful participation. Payment details will be coordinated directly between the DSO staff representative and each committee member.
Launch Timeline
The Production Accessibility Role will formally launch at a national symposium in Spring 2026, hosted by the DSO in partnership with the National Screen Institute (NSI). This milestone event will present the initial training tools, welcome the first cohort of professionals, and spotlight emerging best practices.
